Initially a kittypet named Rusty , he often dreamed of hunting for his own prey in the forest beyond his owner's house thus making him venture into the forest beyond his fence and garden. Rusty joins ThunderClan after encountering Graypaw, when he was caught actually trying to hunt prey in ThunderClan territory, and is initially established as an apprentice, being renamed Firepaw for his flame-colored pelt.
Throughout the series, Firepaw gains respect within the Clan and eventually receives his warrior name of Fireheart at the end of Into the Wild , along with his best friend, Graypaw, renamed Graystripe. Before Bluestar dies, she finally tells Fireheart that she was right about him, and that he was the "fire" in the prophecy, Fire alone can save the Clan , which she heard before he even joined ThunderClan. Firestar was mentored by Bluestar and, for a short time, Lionheart and Tigerclaw , and has mentored three apprentices himself: Cinderpelt , who later becomes a medicine cat apprentice to Yellowfang due to her accident on the Thunderpath which in fact, was set up by Tigerstar as a trap that was actually meant for Bluestar that permanently injures her leg; Cloudtail ; and Brambleclaw.
Cloudtail is the son of his kittypet sister, Princess. Fireheart met Princess when she was heavily pregnant in Fire and Ice.
When her kittens were born, she let Firestar have her firstborn kit to be raised as a warrior with him to ThunderClan, where Bluestar named him Cloudkit. Firestar does not possess any significant character flaws and is fully committed to the warrior code.

The Darkest Hour Starlight Sunrise. Twilight Sunrise The Last Hope. CATS' teath too. Great Starclan! Did they kill their own kind and wear there teath as trophies? When Firestar had been made deputy, he had shown not a scrap of resentment that a lesser cat might have felt. He had supported him from the beginning, and he was the cat Firestar naturally turned to when he needed advice.
I am even more powerful than Starclan, for I have changed the clans in the forest from four to two Not any longer. ThunderClan is led by a kittypet, and there's nothing left to fight for. I feel no loyalty to ThunderClan. In the whole forest, the only cat worth following is Tigerstar.
All they do is watch It's like they're learning all about us, all our secrets and weaknesses. That's why I came over here, to get away from them for a bit. Firestar's nephew is Princess's son, Cloudtail, a white tom, who Fireheart took to raise in Thunderclan. Princess's other kits were unnamed, so we don't know what their gender is. Firestar had no nieces that we know of so far. Firestar has only one granddaughter, Hollyleaf, a black she-cat.
Her mother is Leafpool, although they were lead to believe it was Squirrelflight, and her father was Crowfeather from Windclan, though she was lead to believe it was Brambleclaw. Leafpool and Squirrelflight kept this secret because Leafpool was a medicine cat, and Crowfeather was from another clan.
The truth was discovered when Ashfur threatened to kill Hollyleaf and her siblings, until Squirrelflight said, "Go ahead then. They are not my kits. Her daughters were Sparkkit, who lived, and Dandelionkit, who had never been strong and died two moons after she was born. Firestar has two grandsons, Jayfeather, a blind gray tom cat, who had the power to go into other's dreams and minds, destined to becomed a medicine cat, and Lionblaze, an orage tom, who had the power to never be hurt.
They were part of a prophecy, given to Firestar by Rock, a sphinx, "There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws". Hollyleaf always believed that she was the third cat in the prophecy with her brothers, but she was not. She she had run off into the tunnels, believed to be dead, until she was found alive. Jayfeather had journeyed to the mountains and received another prophecy by Cloud from the Tribe of Endless Hunting, "The end of the stars draws near.
Three must become four, to challenge the darkness that lasts forever. Squirrelflight did have kits with Brambleclaw. Her sons were Alderkit, who lived, and Juniperkit, who died shortly after he was born. Firestar only has one niece, Whitewing, a white she-cat.
